Join bestselling-writer Gesa Neitzel & safari expert Frank Steenhuisen, as they host you on an exclusive safari to their favourite spots in South Africa – including special locations from Gesa’s first book. Immerse yourself in the African wilderness and reconnect to your own wildness amongst like-minded women, whilst sharing stories around the campfire and listening to the sounds of the African savannah.

Ladies, let’s howl at the moon together and sing songs under a canopy of stars! Here is one thing I know for certain: That I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the people who inspired and helped me – some of them are a part of my journey; most of them were my mentors from afar: writers, motivational speakers, leaders… awesome people 😉 Together with safariFRANK I have come up with a trip that incorporates the contents of my book “The Wonderful Wild” into one unforgettable wilderness experience. Bearing in mind that most of you lovely people who follow me on social media and who have read my book are in fact WOMEN, I felt very strongly about the idea to design a tour  for wild women hearts. This safari aims to cater to women of all ages and from all parts of the world to meet each other on an epic trip of self-discovery, mindfulness, awareness and wilderness. It is made with love and I can’t wait to see you out here.

Lots of love from Africa,

Gesa

Frank Steenhuisen

Originally born in Pretoria South Africa, Franks passion for Africa’s wildlife started at the age of 5, with frequent trips to his family’s property in the Greater Kruger area. 20 years later, with a stint of Australia living in-between, Frank now travels Africa extensively as a photographer, private safari guide and director of safariFRANK – identifying and visiting some of the finest safari destinations on the continent.

Gesa Neitzel

Gesa worked as a television editor in Berlin before the call of the wilderness lured her to the African continent. After several long-term trips around the globe, she discovered her love for the African bush and decided without further ado to dare being trained as a ranger in South Africa. Her book about this bold career change “Breakfast with Elephants” became a bestseller shortly after publication. Gesa is now a photographer, author and freelance tour leader exclusively for safariFRANK, who films her life every week in her “SAFARI SUNDAYS” and definitely has not seen enough baby elephants yet …

detailed itinerary

The Experience:

For ten nights we will share our stories and learn from each other in the midst of the South African wilderness. We have designed a unique and once-in-a-lifetime safari that will stay with you for the rest of your life. This trip will not only lead you to some of the places from Gesas two books “Frühstück mit Elefanten” and “The Wonderful Wild”, but it will also give you the chance to experience first hand what the two books are all about: Go back to the roots, reconnect with your inner wild child and be completely and unapologetically your true SELF. We have tried to pack this experience with as many features, specials, knowledge and learnings as we can, to make sure that you walk away from this trip with plenty of new input, friends, memories and ideas.

This WONDERFUL WILD Mindfulness & Wilderness Safari is aimed at women who are in the process of discovering their own truth. It’s designed for wild women who want to experience one of the last pieces of true Wilderness on Earth and who would like to exchange ideas with like-minded people who share the values of love, awareness, compassion and who embrace a gentler way of life. Our goal for this trip is to take you on a journey to your wild hearts, creating moments shared with animals and people that call Africa home; explaining in detail the complexities and intricate relationships of all that is natural.

The Route:

We start off in the stunning Klaserie Drift area for a strong dose of wildlife and exclusive luxury, but soon after – we venture to the Timbavati Game Reserve) where we don’t expect to find any other tourists but rather a more authentic and real wilderness experience. Here we will engage in educational bush walks with the Lowveld Trails Company and exercises in tracking, awareness and the delicate relationship between all species whilst relaxing in a basic but totally awesome camp under the endless African night skies and around the campfire. The last camp will lead us to the wild North of the Kruger National Park. Frank and Gesa will lead the way with their beloved Land Rover Defender “Ellie” while you follow in an air-conditioned mini-bus down the path to the place where Frank and Gesa met: The remote and utterly stunning Makuleke region from Gesas’ first book.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

We would like to encourage you to not wear make-up during the trip (BE NATURAL) and pack as little clothing as possible. There will be time for daily journaling-sessions, Yoga if you’d like to practice a bit,  and deep conversations around the fire. We would like to invite you to just go with the flow and live in the moment.

accommodation

The trip will see you comfortably accommodated, well fed and well looked after. We encourage you to be open to try out wholesome, delicious plant-based/ vegan meals for the duration of your stay, as this is an integral part of our take on a true Wilderness Experience. But you don’t have to! Just let us know your dietary wishes in advance.

Helpful tips

  • Visas/Passports: Please ensure: 1) that you have pre-arranged your entry visa if required; 2) that your passport is valid for at least six months after your scheduled departure date from South Africa; 3) that you have a minimum of 2 consecutive clear pages. If this is not the case, there is a danger of being turned away by the Immigration Service on arrival at the airport – assuming your airline has agreed to bring you and risk a fine in the first place.
  • Health: No vaccinations are mandatory but please consult your doctor for medical advice. Parts of South Africa are considered to be malarial so we recommend the use of anti-malarial prophylactics (normally Malarone), especially if visiting during the summer (December to April) – subject to advice from your own doctor.
  • Luggage: Is restricted to 20 kg (including hand luggage) per person in a soft bag. Weight is generally less important than volume as everything is carried with you on safari. If adding extensions that involve light aircraft transfers the luggage limit may be reduced further to 12 kg in soft bags (please enquire if this may apply to you)
