Combining both the Luangwa and Zambezi rivers, this safari is sure to fill your memory cards! Both camp locations set in the best wildlife areas with far fewer tourists, allowing for undisturbed photographic magic! It doesn’t get better than this.

This photo workshop takes place in two of Zambia’s premiere wildlife viewing and safari destinations: Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa National Park. Both offering world class photographic opportunities and an abundance of wildlife subjects.

Gesa & Frank have carefully selected two camps which are located in the prime wildlife sections of both National Parks which also happen to be further away from most other tourists. This gives you the opportunity to spend more time with your subjects whilst observing and capturing a host of different behaviours. This relaxed atmosphere and un-crowded wildlife sightings are crucial to ensuring that you return home with images you’re happy with.

The tour will start in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Gesa & Franks favourite locations in Africa. Here you can expect to photograph a variety of different species in a selection of varying habitats and activities will be by vehicle and by boat (incredible!). The subtle blue hues in the Ana Tree forests where elephants are dwarfed – are sure to blow you away! Then a flight to Mfuwe will see you entering deep into South Luangwa National Park, to a luxury lodge set in the parks best game viewing area. Here you hope to focus on the high predator density and make the most of the camps strategic position for the local lion prides. The camp also grants us access to a special Photo Editing studio where you will learn some new editing techniques to refine your images and get feedback on your photos taken.

Gesa & Frank know both parks and their wildlife diversity intimately – and know how best to capture those incredible moments on safari. They will be sharing with you their insights, tips and techniques for wildlife & landscape photography as well as photo editing in post-production.

Note: This safari can be for all levels of photography! Even if you are a seasoned pro or a total beginner. In fact, this is just an awesome safari even without the photography aspect!

detailed itinerary

Tusk & Mane consists of two fly camps (Kutali & Chula) which are situated in different habitats to give you the full Lower Zambezi experience. The camps are simple with old style luxury camping, under the stars and around the campfire. The key is the difference between both Kutali & Chula Camp are in terms of their atmosphere and location. The magic lies in the combination. Chula Camp is only accessible by boat, this gives it a wild and remote atmosphere and feeling. This little camp is set back from the main river amongst thick natal mahogany trees overlooking a lagoon and the main river. The focus is on walking and river activities here. Kutali Island is a classic Lower Zambezi valley location set amongst Elephants in a thick winter thorn forest directly on the banks of the main river. Access is an adventurous drive through 3 river channels and all activities are offered at Kutali Camp. We recommend that you stay at least 4 nights to experience both fly camps.

Each camp consists of only 4 tents (stand-up height) which will have single comfortable beds with top quality linen provided (can be joined to form doubles on request), en-suite bathrooms with hot hanging bucket showers, flushing toilets and a washbasin with a mirror.

The canvas can be left open at night (spectacular views) but can also be dropped down if it is cold or for privacy reasons. These are raised during the day to allow for good airflow if it’s hot as well as the fact that you are able to view the Zambezi from your bed.

The camp offers 10 luxury canvas and thatch suites of which 8 are luxury suites and 2 are deluxe suites. Each suite is on a raised timber platform and offers a private deck, ensuite bathroom facilities, charging facilities, hairdryers, free wifi and outstanding quality linen. The main lodge contains an airy thatched area with many seating areas, swimming pool and a well-stocked bar, full size snookers table, shop and coffee station. The camp has electricity 24 hours a day which is supplied by solar power and backup generator.

The area lends itself to outstanding photographic opportunities with little other traffic compared to further south in the park, making this a great destination for keen photographers, particularly those in search of predators.
