detailed itinerary

You start the safari with a charter flight from Maun to Xakanaxa Airstrip after the arrival of your international flight.

The next few days will be spent exploring the Xakanaxa region on memorable and fascinating game drive activities in search of the resident wildlife. The area boasts good chances of seeing lions, leopard, elephants, wild-dogs (Painted Wolves) with plenty of plains game and outstanding birding.

The Mobile camp will be in the form of semi-luxury walk-in meru sized tents with en-suite bathroom containing a short drop toilet and bucket shower with warm water on request. The camp is fully serviced by camp staff who provide fantastic meals and can cater to all dietary requirements.

On the day where the camp changes location from Xakanaxa to Xini you will embark on a short morning drive, followed by a half day boat cruise into the permanent swamp where lunch will be had in a beautiful spot in the delta. This cruise affords you the chance to see the permanent swamp and waterways of the Okavango by motorised boat and is a fantastic experience not to be missed. It gives you the chance to spot the incredible elusive Sitatunga antelope which likes to hide in the dense swamp vegetation and the possibility of visiting a heronry where thousands of birds roost and raise they young. Then another 3-4 hour drive sees you arriving to the same camp but now located in the Xini region.

Xiini: An area of the park that is further away from lodges and campsites making it much more remote and wild. It is also home to the largest lion pride in the Moremi which can be well over 15 pride members. Along with such a large pride comes plenty of food, as the area is also home to large buffalo herds.

A short morning drive in the Xini area, followed by a transfer drive via the Shorobe Village sees you arriving at a mokoro station in the Delta where you will either walk or mokoro to your camp spot for the next few nights.

The next three full days will be spent exploring a vast and unspoilt wilderness in the most authentic and traditional means possible: on foot and by mokoro (traditional canoe). Okwa and his accompanying staff members are from the Bayei tribe, whom were born and raised in the Okavango. Okwa himself grew up on an island in the Delta where he spent his childhood hunting and exploring the waterways as daily life.

The walks will be armed and incredibly safe. For Okwa and his team, this is like taking a stroll in their backyard. They have been doing it for many years and know how to avoid danger and go unnoticed. The walks will be focussed on the smaller details of the delta and its ecology. It is here that the information presented by Frank and Okwa will reach new depths as they bring the workings of this complex river system to life.

The mornings normally consist of a longer walk, in order to cover some distance.

The afternoons are much more relaxed and often involve a mokoro ride to gain access to a new area for a shorter walk. The days are however flexible and Okwa will discuss the plan for each new day to you.

It will be an absolutely magical experience that will stay with you for life!
