A 8-day safari with more than a hint of adventure – from the rugged and romantic wilds of Meru, to the rolling plains of Laikipia and its offering of exciting safari activities, to the spectacle of nature greatest theatre, the Masai Mara.

A luxury flying safari visiting some of Kenya’s most sought-after locations: Loisaba conservancy in Laikipia, Meru National Park & the famous Masai Mara! With set-departures every three days of the year, guaranteed with 2 people, this is the perfect luxury Kenya safari making use of shared rates for flights, transfers and activities!

This safari starts with a luxurious night in Nairobi to unwind and relax after those long international flights. You then fly to the romantic Meru National Park, one of Kenya’s hidden gems and off the normal tourist route! Here you can expect to see little other people and can explore the park in search of its resident big 5. From Meru National Park, another flight sees you landing in the immense Loisaba Conservancy of Laikipia, where you will spend the following two nights exploring this vast area on a mix of different activities accompanied by traditional Samburu guides. One of the best ways to experience this landscape is on foot with these local legends! Then, yet another flight has you landing in the Masai Mara where you will be accommodated in a stunning setting along the Sand River. The area is much further from the rest of the hustle and bustle of the Mara so you can expect to see far fewer tourists and have outrageous wildlife sightings all to yourself! And when the wildebeest migration is in the area, it’s even possible to see them crossing the Sand River from your verandah! Now that’s luxury! Then a final flight to Nairobi to end your luxury Kenyan safari.

This is an old school classic East African safari from the bygone era. Each lodge is outstanding as is the standard of service, food and game viewing.

Also see the sister safari to this one, visiting Amboseli instead of Laikipia.

ABOUT MERU NATIONAL PARK

Meru National Park, wild and remote, lies 10km north of the equator between Mount Kenya and the Nyambeni Mountains, 350km from Nairobi. Meru forms part of a larger conservation area covering 370,000 acres including the adjoining Kora, Rahole and Bisanadi Reserves. The park also incorporates an 84km2 rhino sanctuary, making Meru one of the prime destinations to see rhino in their natural habitat. The birdlife is extraordinarily colourful and abundant with over 400 species of birds.

Rugged and remote, Meru National Park was rescued from oblivion thanks to Elsa’s Kopje, an environmental award-winning, boutique lodge. Visitors get the whole place to themselves: all 870 km2 of it, including a thriving rhino sanctuary inside the Park. Famous for large elephant herds, lion and birdlife, and more diversity of animal species than any park in East Africa; Meru is also the only National Park to permit ranger-guided bush walks. Other activities include fishing in the streams, game drives to Kora and Bisanadi National Reserves, and night game drives back to camp.

Day 4: Meru National Park to Loisaba Conservancy, Laikipia

Begin your day with an informative nature walk in the National Park. After the walk, have lunch at Elsa’s Kopje. Transfer to the Airstrip to board your flight to Loisaba Conservancy. Enjoy a game drive en-route to Loisaba Tented Camp. Arrive at the camp in time for drinks and dinner. Loisaba Conservancy is outstandingly beautiful, its abundant wildlife is truly wild and its accommodation is comfortable beyond measure. Loisaba is made for adventure: guests enjoy complete freedom to choose how they spend their time so the only barrier is your own imagination. Your stay at Loisaba Tented Camp is for 2 nights, and is on all-inclusive basis (includes all meals, bush activities and drinks – excluding premium drinks).

Loisaba is immense: bigger than ten of the world’s fully-fledged nations. You could take months exploring this land and never encounter the same view twice. Perched on the edge of an escarpment with unhindered views across the Laikipia plains to Mt Kenya, Loisaba Tented Camp is the ultimate blend of sophistication and nature. Situated on a secluded and picturesque site, the Camp replicates the heyday of exclusive permanent tented camps of the late 1920’s. The interior fixtures and furnishings mirror this period perfectly, reminding all who visit of those countless Hollywood movies that have paid homage to a classic era of African adventure.

Your stay at Sand River Masai Mara is for 2 nights in a Luxurious Safari Tent, and is on all-inclusive basis (includes all meals, bush activities and drinks – excluding premium drinks)

ABOUT MASAI MARA RESERVE

The Masai Mara Game Reserve is often called simply “The Mara” – a Masai word meaning “mottled” – a reference to its patchy landscape.

The Reserve covers 1,510 sq. km (580 sq. miles) and raises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. The terrain of the reserve is primarily grassland and riverine forest with clumps of distinctive acacia trees. It is about 270 km from the capital city Nairobi and takes about 5-6 hours by road or 40-45 minutes by flight.

The wildlife of the Masai Mara is world-renowned, with the so-called “Big Five”- buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros – evident throughout the year. The “Big Nine” – including cheetah, zebra, giraffe and hippo – extends this experience.

The Masai Mara also plays host to the ‘Annual Migration’ but whatever the time of year the resident wildlife will surely enthral and entertain all who visit this wondrous reserve.

Finally let us not forget the colourful inhabitants of this exceptional landscape. The Masai are a proud semi-nomadic cattle-rearing people with a fascinating culture, divided into several sub-tribes some of which share the Mara region. The Masai are an ever-present reminder of the history and cultural heritage of this sublime and enigmatic landscape, and will surely leave a lasting impression for all.

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Rise early for breakfast before a full day game drive. Enjoy a picnic lunch served in the bush. The Masai Mara is famous for its astounding numbers of wildlife. With both resident and transient populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, elephant, to name a few, as well as over 450 bird species, the vast fertile plains are dense with game. The area has been classified among the “Seven Wonders of the World” due to the extraordinary annual migration from July to November when over 1.3 million wildebeest and zebra cross from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in search of greener pastures. Then you will have the opportunity to Interact with the Masai tribe in their village. A final farewell dinner under the stars.

OPTIONAL BALLOON SAFARI

We suggest today you book a hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara.  You depart the camp before sunrise and transfer in the balloon safari company’s vehicle (with other travellers) to the balloon staging site.  After a briefing from the pilot, the crew will inflate the envelope.  At sunrise, you begin your ballooning adventure with flights at different levels to give you both an overview of Masai Mara National Reserve and a close look at the wildlife.  After about 50 minutes, you land and the chase crew will take you to a picnic site where you are provided a bush breakfast complete with bubbly to celebrate your successful flight in the tradition of balloonists over the centuries.  You then transfer back to the camp.

Day 8: Masai Mara Game Reserve to Nairobi

Enjoy a morning game drive or relax at camp. After lunch your flight will take you back to Wilson Airport. You will be chauffeured to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport; before arriving there, you will stop at one of Nairobi’s gourmet restaurants where dinner will be served. Arrive at the International airport for your outbound flight.

Today your Kenya Safari has come to an end. We trust you will take home memories to last a lifetime and hope that we can welcome you to Kenya again soon!
