An 8-night safari in the Luangwa Valley for a very small group in 2020! Four nights of mega game viewing in South Luangwa National Park followed by four nights in an exclusive bushcamp joining Gesa & Frank in the remote Luambe National Park!

The Safari: The safari starts in the affordable and comfortable Flatdogs Camp where the group will spend the first four nights exploring the South Luangwa National Park on twice daily action-packed game drives or on optional walking safaris. The Mfuwe area of the park is incredibly productive with wildlife sightings and the four nights provides ample time to increase your chances of seeing the iconic species the region is famous for. Species you would hope to encounter include: Lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, kudu, hippo, puku and if you are lucky wild dogs! The park is also home to over 450 bird species so there’s no shortage to keep keen birders busy.

From Flatdogs Camp, you will be transferred by vehicle to the remote Luambe National Park to Kasikizi Bushcamp. After the approximately three-and-a-half-hour scenic drive through wilderness areas and traditional villages, you will be greeted by Gesa & Frank and welcomed to your own exclusive bushcamp for the next four nights, set in an incredibly scenic location. From this intimate bushcamp you will explore the lesser known Luambe National Park along with Gesa & Frank as your safari hosts, sharing with you their intimate knowledge of the park, its biodiversity, its conservation and why its so special. Here you can expect to find less other tourists and much more of a wilderness connection. Activities here range from game drives (day & night), walking safaris, village visits and other special moments Gesa & Frank often like to create. A visit to Luambe is not about the wildlife as much as it is about the sense of true wilderness this remote park has to offer and each visitor coming to this park is directly benefiting the conservation and protection of the area.

Frank Steenhuisen

Originally born in Pretoria South Africa, Franks passion for Africa’s wildlife started at the age of 5, with frequent trips to his family’s property in the Greater Kruger area. 20 years later, with a stint of Australia living in-between, Frank now travels Africa extensively as a photographer, private safari guide and director of safariFRANK – identifying and visiting some of the finest safari destinations on the continent.

Gesa Neitzel

Gesa worked as a television editor in Berlin before the call of the wilderness lured her to the African continent. After several long-term trips around the globe, she discovered her love for the African bush and decided without further ado to dare being trained as a ranger in South Africa. Her book about this bold career change “Breakfast with Elephants” became a bestseller shortly after publication. Gesa is now a photographer, author and freelance tour leader exclusively for safariFRANK, who films her life every week in her “SAFARI SUNDAYS” and definitely has not seen enough baby elephants yet …

The trip will see you comfortably accommodated, well fed and very well looked after. The camps are the perfect mix of adventure with comfort and are perfectly safe.

At Flatdogs camp: The Luxury Safari tents are spacious enough for full-sized beds, hanging rack for clothes, bedside tables and lamps. A door leads into a shaded open-air bathroom with hot shower, flush toilet and basin. The luxury tents also have mosquito nets and electric fans as well as fully gauzed windows.

At Kasikizi Bushcamp: The accommodation will be basic but comfortable, as a bushcamp should be! There will be three grass chalets, about 9 x 4m each. The camp will run off solar and each tent will have charging facilities, an en-suite open air bathroom with running water and shower. Each tent also sports a private veranda overlooking the stunning floodplain and Luangwa river. There will be a small thatched main bar area where lunch and snacks will be served. Most breakfasts and dinners will be enjoyed on the open floodplain with meals prepared on the open fire.
