What is this safari about?
This safari follows the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti on a micro scale, guaranteeing migration sightings and amazing experiences! This truly mobile safari is a ‘moving experience’ that follows the wildebeest all year round.
The wildebeest move throughout the Serengeti-Masai Mara Eco-system, with more time in Tanzania and the Serengeti National Park. The camp moves regularly to campsites within close range of the wildebeest – guaranteeing migration sightings. Amongst other Great Migration Camps draws inspiration from the pioneering safari days of old to recreate an experience that gets you right into the very heart of the incredible biodiversity that exists in the Serengeti.
Great Migration Camp’s mobile camp focuses on the experience of being in the bush and encountering wildlife, especially the migration. First-class guiding with comprehensive knowledge of the terrain, geology, history, geography, environment, birds & wildlife, reliable vehicles and remote & intimate camping spots. Everyday requirements are not left to chance – they have great coffee, comfortable bedding and tasty wholesome food cooked over an open fire – all of which add up to truly unforgettable experiences!
A Bedouin-style stretch tent forms the mess tent and communal dining area and provides shade from the African sun. Underneath the shelters are the dining tables and camp chairs, which can be moved around the campfire for sundowners and fireside stories in the evening.
Great Migration Camps has five waterproof durable dome shaped canvas tents, offering double or twin occupancy for up to 10 clients. Each tent is high enough to stand in upright. Amazingly comfortable warm and durable linen with Masai Shuka’s. Each morning, hot water is brought to your tent for your private wash basin. None of the tents are en-suite and the outdoor ablution block makes use of a bio-chemical toilet (no smell!) and has two gravity-fed shower cubicles for steaming HOT showers every evening. Best shower in the bush guaranteed!
Who can go?
This safari is perfect for singles, couples, families and small groups, children of all ages are welcome.
It also ideal for self-drivers in the Serengeti as it guarantees top notch wildebeest migration sightings through professional guiding, while you can still sleep in your own rooftop tent should you prefer!
Where is this?
Set against the backdrop of the great wildebeest migration, this completely mobile, self-sufficient, and environmentally friendly camp can travel anywhere in the Serengeti depending on the time of year and the stage and location of the migration, giving you a front row seat to one of Mother Nature’s greatest events.
The mobile camp moves location as the wildebeest move, with the ability to move camp in a day. Like the wildebeest they stay in tune with the natural environment, weather conditions and where the herds are gathered.
As the mobile camp moves as the wildebeest migration moves the exact location months in advance is hard to predict. They will always know the location before you arrive as well as the closest airstrip. There are two consistent events in the migration cycle, where you will be sure to find the camp:
Calving Season (Feb-March): Ndutu area, Southern Serengeti
Crossing Season (July-Oct): Mara River, Northern Serengeti.
What should I expect to pay?
Rates for a full board plus game package stay starts at around USD 365 per person sharing, USD 275 for children between 12 and 16, USD 180 for children between 6 and 10 years old, while children under 5 years stay for free!
These rates exclude the conservation and camping fees of the Serengeti NP.
What Extensions do you recommend?
Given that you will be in the Serengeti the nearby Ngorongoro Crater is a MUST do if you have not been there before. Manyara and Tarangire are also great parks to complete the Northern Serengeti circuit.
Another close by location (a safariFRANK favourite!) is Lake Natron, check it out!
