The Robertson Small Hotel, offers elegance, warmth and plenty of local character, by displaying, supporting and celebrating contemporary South African Art!

In winter of 2016, The Robertson Small Hotel underwent a major renovation, coordinated by the esteemed Studio Ashby. Designers and collaborators were tasked with inventing a range of bespoke items that would conspire to create a brand-new look, while enhancing the award-winning facilities.

With 10 distinct rooms, a new restaurant and bar, two pool areas, a wellness room and ample gardens, the Robertson Small provides superlative service to its’ guests, maintaining the standards that make it Robertson’s only five-star hotel.

In the 150 years since it was founded, a lot has changed in Robertson, located in the heart of South Africa’s Cape Winelands, but, arguably, just as much has not. There is decidedly less wagon building and ostrich feather farming these days, but this is still a small country town, flanked by vast, imperious mountain ranges on the banks of the Breede River, decorated by Victorian and Edwardian architecture, and with streets that are lined with purple-flowering Jacaranda trees.

Experience + Activities

These days, wine farming is the valley’s main distraction; indeed, the number of wine cellars in the area has doubled in the past two decades, with many of the newer wineries quickly establishing themselves as industry beloveds. The Small has formed close relationships with many of the surrounding, mostly family-run farms and smallholdings, and curated a selection of bespoke experiences to allow guests to best enjoy the intimate charms of the region.

At The Robertson Small’s tranquil poolside Wellness Rooms, a selection of therapeutic skincare and body treatments, specialized massages, facials, pedicures and manicures are also on offer, for those seeking relaxation and wellness.

The Robertson Small Hotel has 10 en-suite rooms in The Manor House, Stables and Poolside suites. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, underfloor heating, air-conditioning units, self-service bars, tea/coffee making facilities, electronic safes, bathrobes, seating areas, televisions & DVD players, as well as a work desk for business travelers.

  • The three Manor House Rooms sport typically Victorian high, embossed ceilings and large windows onto the veranda. Built in 1909, the Manor House is now a National Monument.
  • Two downstairs suites – each with a private patio – and a larger Honeymoon suite upstairs make up the three Stable Suites, all of which overlook a private swimming pool.
  • The classic contemporary Poolside Suites each open onto a private wooden deck with access to the swimming pool.
