Morukuru Beach Lodge

This five-bedroom oceanfront beach lodge, is ideal for honeymoon couples or small families, seeking an eco-beach holiday and immersive coastal nature experience. 

Morukuru Beach Lodge is situated at Koppie Alleen, in one of Africa’s most beautiful coastal reserves, the De Hoop Nature Reserve, which lies just South of Swellendam, along the Whale Coast, in the Overberg region. The Overberg is characterized by quaint towns, a blossoming wine industry and delicious local dishes. The 36 000 hectare De Hoop conservation area is a World Heritage Site, comprising rich biodiversity and over 50 kilometres of pristine coastline. 

The five-bedroom villa can be booked per suite, or on an exclusive-use basis. It is an off-the-grid idyll for couples or small families who are seeking a pristine, private beach house in South Africa. 

Experience & Activities 

Morukuru Beach Lodge offers a range of activities that guests can either do individually, or as part of two guided activities daily, which are included and on a shared basis, with fellow guests of the lodge.  

Most activities are weather and tide dependent, and will be chosen by the guide, on a daily basis. One guided activity in the morning, and one guided activity in the afternoon is included. 

• (Guided) marine walks (1-3 hours), allowing you an insight in the amazing marine life in the rock pools in the immediate vicinity of Beach Lodge. Great for kids as well as parents! Low tide only. 
• (Guided) fynbos walks and hikes (1-3 hours), showing the incredible diversity and beauty of the fynbos vegetation De Hoop Nature Reserve. 
• (Guided) Mountain biking (1-3 hours), offering you an overview of the diversity of the area around Morukuru Beach Lodge. Different routes are possible. 
• Guided 4×4 fynbos nature drives, which allow you to explore areas of De Hoop Nature Reserve which are situated a little further from Beach Lodge. These nature drives also offer a good opportunity to see some of the local wildlife in the park. 
• Land based whale watching (July-October) 
• from Beach Lodge and the surrounding sand dunes and beaches. 
• Sundowners on the sand dunes, overlooking the Indian Ocean with possibly a glimpse of a pod of dolphins, or whales (seasonal). 
• Sand boarding on the white sand dunes in the immediate vicinity of Beach Lodge. 
• Various beach games like volleyball, cricket and croquet 
• Snorkeling in the protected rock pools 

We recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights, to be able to enjoy the location and the various activities on offer at Morukuru Beach Lodge. The beaches in front of Morukuru Beach Lodge are also ideal for some relaxing and swimming. 

Accommodation 

Morukuru Beach Lodge consists of 4 Ocean View Suites and 1 Honeymoon Suite. All suites are equally spacious (90 m² each) and comfortably furnished.  

• The 2 Ocean View Suites offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, surrounding beautiful fynbos vegetation and pristine white dunes. A cosy private balcony offers outdoor seating, from which to soak up the exquisite natural beauty. Occupancy is limited to a maximum of two guests per suite. 
• The 2 Ocean View Family Suites offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, the beautiful fynbos vegetation and pristine white dune setting. A cosy private balcony offers outdoor seating from which to soak up the exquisite natural beauty. These two suites can each comfortably accommodate up to two adults plus two children under sixteen years old. 
• The Honeymoon Suite offers generous views of the rich fynbos and dune surrounds, with partial views of the sparkling Indian Ocean below. The large private deck, replete with outdoor bathtub and sun loungers, is perfect for the ultimate romantic ocean-side safari escape. Occupancy is limited to a maximum of two guests. 

Each of the suites is located on the ground floor and features a large en-suite bathroom with walk-in rain shower and a separate bathtub, separate toilet, as well as double vanity basins. All suites have an over-sized (2 x 1,1 m) bay window and daybed, a perfect place to lounge while watching the sea. This daybed, may also be used as a children’s bed, for younger guests.
