Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge has 7 bedrooms and 13 suites with their own private swimming pools. Some open onto the tropical garden and the others with breathtaking views overlook the western lagoon! Decorated with finesse and character, all rooms and suites have a terrace and a tropical shower, open to the sky!

Chamarel was the dream location for the development of this luxury eco-lodge surrounded by a tropical garden of a dozen hectares where olive wood and various other endemic species, such as ferns and flamboyant trees, flourish. In the southwest of the island, at 350m in altitude, Chamarel is surrounded by the natural park of the Black River gorges, a protected natural heritage site. In this region, the World Wildlife Society has managed to save a number of species from extinction like the kestrel, the pink pigeon, and the green parrot. The highest point of the Island situated in the Black River mountain range is just in front of you: ‘The Black River Peak’ at 828 meters!

Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge is a small ‘boutique hotel’, managed ‘like a Guesthouse’ but with the full service of a ‘5-star hotel’! Unique and refined in the heart of a splendid tropical garden of twelve hectares, surrounded by the mountains of Chamarel. Lakaz Chamarel includes a main building with its reception, lounges, TV room and library, bar and the dining room and its terraces where meals are served. The kitchen is open and welcomes guests who want to learn the recipes from the Chef!

Scattered around the main building, the 20 Rooms & Suites have different decorations representing the diversity of different cultures on the Island. Each room defines its ethnic influence in its furniture and its decoration be that China, Africa, India, or simply tropical. The wood, the slate, the beams, the terra cotta, the ton ochre, beige and rust confer a Mauritian charm to this exclusive Lodge.

There are 3 Kaz Standard rooms of 50 sqm, 4 Kaz Superior Rooms of 60 sqm, 8 Garden Pool Suites of approx. 95 sqm with private pool, 4 Seaview Pool Suites of approx. 110 sqm with private pool and 1 Exclusive Pool Suite of approx. 120 sqm with private pool and sea view kiosk!

All Rooms and Suites are equipped with ceiling fan, citronella essential oil, bathrobes, slippers, mosquito nets, sponges & pool towels, pillow menu (for a more comfortable sleep), mini bar, hairdryer, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, iPod dock and free WI-FI.

Taste… taste, smell, allow your senses to come alive again and your taste buds to enjoy themselves! The chef will invite you to discover the cooking based on Mauritian products, on tropical fruits and local vegetables prepared ‘couma la kuisine d’antan’! (the old-fashioned way). In the kitchen Chef Nicolas Eddy is ‘passionately fond’ about his profession! With his team and his sous chef he is always looking for the best flavours to please your taste buds!

At Lakaz, the bar staff want to share with you some of their Mauritian way of life. Consequently, like them, some people like to help themselves while others prefer to be served. So at the bar, if you wish, help yourself as at home, but if you prefer to be served, do not hesitate to ask the staff who will look after you with great pleasure!

Choose, as your mood dictates a good massage with essential oils, or give yourself a moment to do nothing… or enjoy a long moment of relaxation, mixed with a session of yoga, sauna, massage and reflexology.

Between peaks, valleys and waterfalls, walk along paths to discover the unique flora and fauna in the mountains and natural parks of Chamarel and of Black River Gorges, with or without a guide, and also by bicycle. The lodge organise all activities according to your wishes, whether that is sporting or cultural activities, visits on the Island, golf on neighbouring courses, or if you prefer a sea outing in the ocean below.

To discover the surrounding area from the lodge consider these options:

• Magnificent view of the ocean and the west coast within a 5 to 10-minute walk from your room through the property.
• Climb of Piton Canot from the paths on the estate with or without a guide, about a 1 hour walk.
• Visit of Chamarel’s coloured earth and waterfall going through the village of Chamarel, distance from Lakaz 3.5km or a 1 hour walk or 30 minutes on bicycle. The coloured earths of Chamarel are made of dunes with 7 variations of different colours, fluctuating between the ochre, brown, yellow, red and purplish blue, they constitute a very rare geological curiosity. Once mixed, they always end up being separated. This phenomenon is caused by the presence of volcanic ashes containing mineral oxides of different colours.
• Black River Peak, the highest mountain of the island which you can admire from Lakaz, with or without a guide, a 3 hour walk.
  Black River Gorges with or without a guide, 3.5 hour walk from Pétrin to Black River. The National Park of Black River Gorges, the green heart of Mauritius. With its 50 kilometres of paths and its six marked circuits, the Black River National Park is the favourite place of hikers. In the National Park one finds 163 of 311 species of endemic plants, as well as 28 species of endemic birds, unique in the world and protected, some of which have been saved from extinction and which you may be fortunate to see.
• Walk to Bel Ombre about an hour and a half and lunch at the Château.
• Bicycle rides in the village of Chamarel and/or descent towards the coast through the village of Baie du Cap. The lodge can pick you up with a 4×4 at the bottom of the Case Noyale descent!
• Visit of the Rum Distillery, the wood Museum and the Parc Aventura.

You are approximately 10 to 15 minutes by car from some of the most beautiful beaches on the island (the Morne, Baie du Cap), and from the small coastal towns of Black River and La Gaulette. You can ride to the beach on bicycles (beautiful ride through the village of Chamarel up to the Morne!) and the lodge can organise your return if the Chamarel climb is too hard for you!
