The name of the world’s oldest desert, the Namib, means “empty place”, and the barren and at the same time breathtaking scenery belongs to one of the most spectacular places on this planet! In 2013, a large part of the desert became a UNESCO World Heritage site under the name of “Namib Sand Sea”.

Set within a 2 800-hectare private nature reserve, Desert Homestead Outpost welcomes you with a relaxed natural hospitality. Enjoy the endless panoramic view from one of the 12 guest houses, or from the main house, and the restaurant, lounge and pool terrace, all picturesquely situated at the foot of a mountain. In the adjacent plains you can frequently watch animals roaming the endless savannah, all whilst enjoying the swimming pool, sun deck and shaded areas.

The 12 Houses enjoy impressive panoramic view over the desert plains and are set at the base of the mountain. All rooms offer private shaded sun decks/mosquito nets/aircon/refrigerator/coffee machine/mini safe/possibility to observe the stars!

The Family House comprises of living space of approx. 90 sqm, a very special place indeed! Enjoy a spectacular view over the Namib panorama lined by its mountains and the red dunes of Sossusvlei either from the seats in the windowsill of the large living room window, from the four-poster bed in the bedroom, or your preferred shady spot on the terrace. The house itself stands apart from the others and offers a genuine experience of the quietness and vastness of the Namib desert. The modern and refined interior completes the appealing appearance and is perfect for demanding guests expecting individuality.

The Superior Unit of the Desert Homestead Outpost has been built in the style of a Hideaway and covers a living space of approx. 90 sqm, also a very special place! Experience the panorama of the Namib, bordered by the mountains and the red dunes of Sossusvlei from the living room through a huge seat window, or from the 2.80-meter-wide sky bed in the bedroom. Your shaded terrace is protected from glances and accessible by a separate door offering breathtaking views of the landscape or the starry sky. The Superior Unit is secluded from the other houses and will let you experience the tranquillity and expanse of the Namib Desert.

Guests are invited to make use of different activities offered by the lodge, excursions to Sossusvlei as well as horse safaris, walks and tours through the scenic countryside.

The Desert Homestead Lodge is famous for its guided trail rides in the Namib desert. Guided rides are offered twice a day in the early morning and close to sunset. Horse riding safaris lasting several days can be booked by experienced riders as well as beginners. Spending the night in a romantic tent camp on a campfire under the starry sky of the Namib desert will be an unforgettable experience!

The lodge also offers a half-day guided hike for experienced hikers, the NAMIB MOUNTAIN TRAIL is leading over mountains and through the plain. Starting in the early morning at Desert Homestead Lodge, the walk goes through breathtaking landscape to the Outpost, where a cold drink and the pool are waiting.

For the more active a run is available in the cool morning hours, a level and well-marked 10km track offers runners diversion from long car rides.

Balloon rides over the Namib desert literally are a highlight. The Lodge can organise the popular balloon rides by Namib Sky Balloon Safaris for you. This activity starts early in the morning on the neighbouring farm which is about 45 minutes away from the lodge.
