This lovingly furnished working farm lies, surrounded by a variety of Oudtshoorn Attractions, in the Klein Karoo. All the region’s highlights, such as ostrich farms, the Route 62 (the longest wine route in the world), the historic Cango caves, the Cango Wildlife ranch, stunning waterfalls and museums, all lie but a stone’s throw away from this little gem!

Only 7kms outside of the ‘Ostrich Capital of The World’, Oudtshoorn, lies the 3,000-hectare working farm – De Zeekoe Guest Farm. The farm offers the ideal location from which to explore the diverse region of Oudtshoorn, which is a must-see, when travelling South Africa’s Garden Route.  The name De Zeekoe, is derived for the Dutch name for the farm, Zeekoegat, which means “hippo waterhole”. Over a century ago, these water-loving creatures used to frequent the riverbed, now dry, but still evident, in the grounds of the farm today.

Being the only fair-trade registered property of the Oudtshoorn area, the in-house restaurant offers delicious meals, made with fresh farm produce and free-range meat. Further amenities include a cocktail bar, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the guesthouse, a jungle gym for the younger guests and recycling and solar power facilities.

Experience + Activities

Enjoy the unique opportunity to walk with wild meerkats, during an early morning tour, visit the famous Cango Caves, relax by enjoying a treatment at the farm’s Tranquility Spa, or enjoy stargazing tours in the Klein Karoo’s night skies.

Of course, tours of the surrounding ostrich farms, are the most popular activity in the region. Learn everything there is to know about these giant birds, from seeing their enormous eggs in the incubators, to watching the full-grown birds frolicking in the dust of an arid semi-desert landscape. There are also numerous amazing hiking paths, that range between 5 and 30kms, in the surrounding mountains.
